How It Works. You must have JavaScript enabled in your browser to utilize the functionality of this website. The dimensions of our recycling sheets in standard format are mm for the length and mm for the width. The PE-UHMW sheets are solid sheets of solid core material and not rigid foam sheets with foamed polyethylene cores, which are completely dyed black throughout to ensure a consistent colour on the cut and milled edges as well as the surfaces.
The surfaces of the panels made of recycled material are smooth and are supplied without protective film. This results in a significantly more abrasion-resistant and harder surface, which not least has an effect on a long service life.
Particularly in mechanical and plant engineering, the regenerates are therefore used for finished parts that are subject to high loads under permanent dynamic stress. Sheets made of black PE-UHMW reclaimed material are significantly cheaper than PE-UHMW sheets made of virgin material and are therefore an excellent alternative, because the recycled sheets are also suitable for applications with high demands on dynamic loads even at very low temperatures.
The impact and shock resistant PE-UHMW reclaimed material is characterised by its very good sliding properties and very high wear and abrasion resistance.
The high-performance plastic made from recycled material owes these properties to the very high molecular density resulting from the very long molecular chains typical of PE-UHMW. The liner should be thicker in impact areas and thinner in slide areas. Important notes: UHMW cannot be firmly fastened to metals because of a large difference in thermal expansion. UHMW expands five times as fast as steel and three times as fast as aluminum and about the same as wood but slightly more than concrete.
Fasteners are the best way to secure UHMW to metal. The UHMW must be allowed to expand or float. Large flat head fasteners must be used. Fastener shaft holes in UHMW must be over-sized to allow for sheet expansion and contraction.
Back to Materials. Where is UHMW used? There are three tests you can perform: Burn Test — light it with a match and smell the smoke. If it smells like candle wax — that indicates polyethylene.
Oven Test — place it in an aluminum dish in a degree oven. However, it could warp or distort due to built in stresses. What is the temperature range of UHMW?
What are the heat characteristics of UHMW? Does UHMW degrade at higher temperatures? What chemicals affect UHMW? How does the environment affect UHMW? Wind — no effect Rain or sea water — no effect Sun without protection — depends on thickness and location.
The thicker the better. In Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, and other desert areas — less than one year. What is the flammability of UHMW? How can you tell if a sample of UHMW contains regrind?
