Is it possible to train a husky
By this stage, your puppy should be comfortable with their crate and not see or associate it with any negative. Before your husky pup is ready for bed, there are basic requirements to have met. This will reduce potty mistakes and whining throughout the night.
After this, you are ready to guide your husky pup into his crate at the same time you are also heading to bed. If you have carried out the previous introduction training, guiding him into his crate should not cause any issues. Especially after he is well exercised and already tired. Therefore your pup should have eaten at least 2 hours prior to bedtime. This will reduce hunger throughout the night, and avoid the classic post-dinner poop being made inside the crate!
One mistake you do not want to make is reinforcing bad behavior. If your husky pup is whining or crying it is down to only a few reasons, some are legitimate and some are not. By making sure your puppy has been to the toilet before entering the cage, you are eliminating the first good reason for them to cry.
The second one is ensuring they have received their last meal. Needing the toilet or being hungry are the only good reasons for crying. The best way to deal with your puppy whining and crying is to ignore him , and only when he stops crying and whining for a short while, you see to him. A big mistake that will cost you MANY nights of sleep! Your puppy needs to know that whining is not how his needs are met.
The time will soon come when your puppy is ready for the outside world. Having him leash trained or at least comfortable with the leash is something you should make sure of before this amazing moment. Being able to put your puppy on the leash will also serve well for a lot of other training.
The leash gives you control over where your puppy goes and where he does not go which will prove extremely helpful! Like potty training and crate training, your patience is super important. You have to remember that having something strapped on to him will be a very new and weird sensation for him. For adults, we recommend slightly different options, which you can check out the husky supplies list.
But for puppies, these options are simple, affordable and will get the job done just perfectly. A very slow, gradual process is required for successful leash training.
At each stage you will spend some time there, ensuring your puppy is content, before moving on to the next stage. At least for a while. Use a treat or toy to help. Well, the reason for a very slow introduction to the harness and leash is to make your pup feel super comfortable with the harness and leash. To properly teach him to walk on the leash, you need to make it simple. While holding the leash, take one or two steps back away from him and then encourage him to come to you.
Remember to always face him and step back away, this will automatically encourage him to come to you anyway. Once he comes to you, make a big fuss and praise heavily.
Lots of short training sessions spaced through the day helps to instil the understanding that he has to listen to you and get into the habit of obeying. Stave off bad habits with mental stimulation. And finally, Huskies are strong, demanding dogs. Having said this, with proper training, the rewards can be great, with a dog that loves spending time with you and encourages you to be active too!

When we go out the house even for half an hour he is left with our other husky for company. Neither are crated we but we only allow them in the kitchen lounge as its open plan. We leave the tv on for human sounds, comfort. However the youngest 9 months old, will go out of his way to cause as much distruction as he can.
Its like a tantrum. How do i go about stopping this without having to crate him. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Call: [email protected]. Get in Touch. Go to Keep repeating this until the dog learns that it cannot break from the sit position when the door is opened.
Be sure to reward to dog for each success. After several successes and waiting when the door is opened, the dog can then advance to the next step. Do not get over excited about exiting the door as the dog will look forward to the excitement the next time and may break the sit. It is very important to be consistent every time you go out the door.
It is also important to keep in mind that while this will reduce chances for running out the door when it is opened a squirrel or other interesting object may cause the Siberian to temporarily forget all your hard training efforts. A dog chews to relieve stress and the behavior is important for oral hygiene. When the desire strikes, the dog will seek out something to chew. It is important to provide things that the dog can chew. Some suggestions are Nylabones, Kongs, and rawhide. Dog toys should be dog toys, not old socks.
The dog does not know the difference between old and new. Provide the dogs favorite chew toys in each room of the house so that they are available when the desire strikes. Inappropriate chewing targets can be sprayed with foul tasting substances. Some examples are bitter apple, hot pepper juice, lemon juice, and other commercial bittering agents.
Crating the dog when you are not home or cannot watch the dog is also helpful to prevent unwanted chewing. Siberian Husky owners do not often describe beautiful landscaping in their yard, moonscaping maybe.
Digging is a natural behavior and cannot be stopped in many Siberian Huskies. It is best to create an area where the dog can dig and supervise the dog in areas where digging is not appropriate. A sand pit can provide a good area to dig. For some dogs, burying its feces in the holes will prevent digging in the same location. Look for the source - is she teething? Hungry for solid food? At this age it is usually teething. My method goes against many peoples grain. When they are nibbling, in fun play, I put my wrist in their mouth just to the point that they can no longer bite.
A tired dog pays attention better. Run, bike, play ball, anything to get them tired. Take the kids. One more thing. Use a harness not a collar for walking. Our dogs always have their collars on and put an easy walking harness doesn't need to be an expensive sledding harness. And never, ever use a spike collar.
The harness give you more control. The dog doesn't get hurt. And you can lift the pup more easily if their is a situation bully dog or crossing the street arises. Most important - invest in a good trainer for at least 6 lessons. Some doggie day care place also have training sessions available where you stay. You need to be trained as well as the dog. Sorry for the long post - Huskies are a lot different from many dog breeds and too many get turned into rescue because of lack of knowledge.
