Made of Stone. Oh yesssss, my kind of music. So Moody. Makes me feel alive. This will always be one of my favorite albums ever. It's certainly their high point as a band. Brilliant, classic, hear its influences all over the place. I was a bit surprised how may of the songs I knew, but they released SIX singles, and one of the other songs is one of the singles backwards! Really enjoyed it, but now frustrated they didn't kick on from here.
This album sounds like a clear waterfall streaming down a river. So cool. So refreshing. A tie. I seem to remember the first half of this album more than the last, until Fool's Gold arrives.
Great listening to this again. It grew on my. I had to listen to it many times, and every time it was better than before. Chill alternative rock, a little bit peculiar, but generally a pleasant listen.
If only the album was good as the first two and last song all the way through. Best closer of all time tho. Solid album, more psychedelic and weirder than expected in a good way. Not listened to stone roses for years. Looking forward to this one. Enjoyed that, I'd forgotten that they can be quite chilled out.
Not a band I've listened to much, but a really good album. Have loved this album for a fair while, highly recommend watching their Documentary. Would love to have experienced that Manchester scene. Like the vibe. Tiene el sonido de The Smiths sin todos los dramas de Morrissey. Appreciate this album more and more as I continue to listen to it. Lyrics more intelligible now, very eclectic album.
Softy sadboi rock, but done well! I thoroughly enjoyed the first half of the album, and everything after was a slow decline, but never felt awful. Probably won't throw it into a rotation but will have more appreciation if it comes up on it's own. Really hard to pick between 3 and 4 for this one. I'll round up for the hell of it. A testament to tight songcraft done by what feels like a fairly standard four- or five-piece rock outfit.
Not many debut albums have the consistency Ian Brown et al achieved with this. There are 8 absolute classic songs on here. But I've never thought the run of Don't Stop and Elizabeth my dear are good enough and most people just skip past them to the majestic sugar spun sister. This is a shame considering they left Love Spreads and Sally Cinnamon off this.
The version I have been given by apple music has Love spreads on which I don't recall being on this. Further checks to the back of my original album version confirm this. All things considered though a classic album if not a perfect one. S- Ian Brown can't perform live and is an anti vax nob. Good harmonies, and it even rocks out occasionally. Easy 4. Never been a huge fan of Stone Roses but this is a cool album with some classic tunes. Had literally never heard of this band before, and the Wikipedia article says it's considered one of the greatest albums of all time.
There's something precious about those airy, delicate vocals. Feels like a vibey 90s take on hippie music, wondering if the Stone Roses really set the stage for much of that 90s poppy rocky ravey scene. Just got to track 4, that took a huge psychedelic turn. Some Jimi, some Beatles. The happy little guitar solo at in "Made of Stone" sounds like something I'd play while standing on my tippy toes and fucking around with my phaser.
I enjoyed this one, will see how that translates into my arbitrary awarding of stars tomorrow morning. I appreciated the variety on this album. It seemed like it was the bridge between New Wave and Brit Pop. Loved some of the more moody songs with sonic distortion and show gazey breakdowns. I feel like this spawned bands like Spiritualized, Oasis, etc.
Quite a lot better than I expected. Definitely enjoyed it. The last track surprised me quite a bit too, but it was a good finish to a good album. No real standout songs for me though and therefore not a 5. This was such a charmer I was shocked I hadn't heard them before. Big indie movie vibes at times. But after a second listen it tips over to a 4.
Beach Boys might not be right but it's a band I know I've heard. Probably a good concert song. The beginning of "Don't Stop" sounds like it would be from Aerosmith. I like this one. Previous songs reminded me of a cross between Beach Boys and The Cherries. That's what it was. I liked this album.
It's not what I typically listen to but I liked it. Really liked it. Will explore more 80s brit rock. Least favorite was Don't Stop.
Will probably listen to this one again! Awesome tunes. Felt rocky but also with kind of brother bear feel?? Gran disco, grandes canciones, grandes arreglos, grandes solos, etc. Great Britpop! Cool sounds and fun songs, unique while also a tribute to the 60s.
This album manages to bring together a host of influences in a coherent and interesting way. I can hear Beatles, the Smiths, Joy Division, dance sounds and more in this album. The 'Madchester' scene of which the Stone Roses were a key player, was born of the indie dance scene fused with psychedelia and pop sounds. This movement found mainstream success but started to decline in the earlier nineties as Britpop and Grunge became favored.
Great album that marked the start of an era! Really enjoyed it. First album of the journey for me. This should be fun if they're all half as good as this. Great music to cross-stitch to. Originally, I was going to say relaxing, but not a sleep sort of relaxing. Then I reflected upon the album and realized everything was fairly upbeat, but not in-your-face up beat. Started getting a bit samey towards the end, but still quite good musicianship. I felt as though the band were really a band, if that makes any sense.
I enjoyed it for the most part. U top 5 najboljih brit pop albuma, alo. Catchy tunes with lots of hooks, jangly guitars, groovy rhythms - what's not to like? I enjoyed this quite a bit. Classic and seminal, echoing influences without ripping them off in a way Oasis completely failed to do. Album tracks innovative and pleasing. A long overdue full listen. A solid album through and through. Dig a lot of the songs, especially I Am The Resurrection. I was surprised by how much I liked this one - it's like a little psychedelic alt-rock adventure.
My favorite track on the album, "Fool's Gold", has a funky almost trip-hop beat that carries it along, and it's very nice. I have a feeling that I'll be coming back to this album. I've listened to this extensively in the past. Remastered version is very mellow and strangely paced but has some excellent songs - she bangs the drums and I am the resurrection are highlights, and fool's gold is a brilliant song. Good start, even if it is unlikely to become one of my favourites.
Left very little impression, TBH. It's not bad by any means. It just doesn't do much that's new or interesting. I might need to give this one another try later. Singers voice is soothing, almost nostalgic. Gives me soft, summery vibes. I dig. Wikipedia says this is considered to be one of the greatest albums of all time.
It's solid enough, but I compare it to what I listened to yesterday Ziggy Stardust and find it wanting. There's a wistful sound here that is enjoyable but I don't think I would seek it out. Though I see wouldn't change the radio if any of these songs where on. That was quite a pleasant surprise. I was dreading listening to this, I have never been a fan and always wondered why so many seem to think The Stone Roses are amazing.
I've had people try to convert me in the past, to no avail. This time round I rather enjoyed the listen. I probably wouldn't choose to put it on, but I am no longer cringing at the mere mention of the band. It was quite enjoyable. Very interesting intro to rock, chill vibes but all the songs sound similar and drag on..? I guess I have to be chalked up among those who find the extreme hype around this album baffling. I thought it was fine, I enjoyed listening to it well enough and didn't dislike any of it, but I also wasn't over the moon about any of it.
A little soft and slack throughout. Certainly there is Madchester scene music I like better. Actually a pretty good mellow album - need to finish it Starts off ok with " I want to be adored" but then gets a bit bland for me. The singing gets real soft and seems to be overtaken by the instrumentals.
Then the songs tend not to distinguish themselves from each other, until "made of stone" one of the final tracks on the album, which I enjoyed the most and "this is the one" and " I am the resurrection ".
The last 4 songs of the album really shine. Twas alright. I enjoyed it for what it is, but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to listen to it. Good album, representative of this era of music. The end was very intense. Probably wouldn't listen again. Great album, the last song is shit though. Don't Stop has a very KKB vibe. One of those classic albums that I had never really sat down around to listen.
It's really good! Love how pres it sounds. Teilweise noch medolieus. No apto para escuchar mientras estudias Canciones un poco largas pero buena onda. Die Produktion ist mir leider etwas zu breiig, und der Ultrabrite bin ich eh nicht. The Stone Roses were a band I had not heard of before I received this album.
I thought they had some great songs, my favorite being Made of Stone. The only issue I had with this band was the stage presence. The lead single seemed extremely boring and the songs are so slow I image a concert would be quite boring. The Beatles, by My Bloody Valentine for most of the album.
